How to Get to York Pride

York Pride 2026 takes place on Saturday 30 May 2026, with the parade starting in York city centre before making its way to the festival site on the Knavesmire.

There are two key locations to be aware of on the day. The parade starts from Parliament Street in York city centre. The main festival site is on the Knavesmire, accessed from Knavesmire Road, YO23 1EX.

Whether you are joining us for the parade, heading straight to the festival, or planning to do both, please plan your journey in advance and allow extra time. York will be busy throughout the day and some roads may be affected by the parade route, event traffic and usual city centre congestion.

Travelling to the Parade Start

The York Pride parade starts from Parliament Street, in the heart of York city centre. Parliament Street is close to many of York’s main shops, cafés, bus stops and city centre car parks.

If you are travelling by train, York Railway Station is approximately a 15 to 20 minute walk from Parliament Street. The route takes you through the city centre and is usually the easiest option for anyone arriving by rail.

If you are travelling by bus, many local services stop in or near the city centre, including stops around Piccadilly, Stonebow, Rougier Street and Exhibition Square. From these areas, Parliament Street is only a short walk away.

If you are driving into York for the parade, please be aware that city centre parking can be limited and busy. We recommend using one of York’s Park & Ride services where possible and travelling into the city centre by bus. This helps reduce congestion and makes it easier to reach the parade start without needing to park in the busiest part of York.

Parade Start Location

The parade will begin from Parliament Street, York.

Please arrive in good time if you are taking part in the parade. Parade participants should follow the joining instructions provided by York Pride, including arrival times, assembly points and any group-specific information.

If you are coming to watch the parade, please choose a safe viewing point along the route and follow any instructions from York Pride marshals, event staff or emergency services.

Travelling from the Parade to the Festival Site

After leaving the city centre, the parade travels towards the festival site on the Knavesmire.

Many people choose to walk with the parade from the city centre to the festival site. The walk from Parliament Street to the Knavesmire is around 1.5 to 2 miles, depending on the exact route. Please wear comfortable footwear, bring water, and plan for the weather.

If you do not wish to walk the full route, you may prefer to travel directly to the festival site instead. Please check local bus options, taxis or drop-off arrangements before the day.

Travelling Directly to the Festival Site

The York Pride festival takes place on the Knavesmire, with access from Knavesmire Road, YO23 1EX.

The festival site is a large grass field, so please plan your journey and footwear with this in mind. The site can be uneven in places and ground conditions may vary depending on the weather.

If you are travelling by train, York Railway Station is around a 25 to 35 minute walk from the festival site. You can also travel onwards by taxi or local bus, depending on availability.

If you are travelling by bus, please check local services before setting off. Services and stops may vary, especially where road closures or event traffic are in place.

If you are driving, please note that there is no general public parking on the festival site. Local roads around the Knavesmire can become very busy, and some access may be restricted. Please do not park in a way that blocks residents, emergency access, pavements, driveways or event routes.

Accessible Travel

We aim to be as accessible as possible and understand that some visitors may need to plan their journey more carefully.

Blue Badge parking information, accessible access routes and any specific arrival guidance will be confirmed before the event. The festival site is located on grass and is not completely level, so visitors with access needs should read our accessibility information before attending.

If you require accessible parking or have specific access questions, please check our Accessibility page for the latest information.

Taxis and Drop-Offs

Taxis and private vehicles should use safe, legal drop-off points near the city centre for the parade or near the Knavesmire for the festival site.

Please do not ask drivers to stop on restricted roads, block traffic, enter closed routes or drop off at event gates unless specifically permitted. On the day, road layouts and access arrangements may change, so please follow signage and instructions from event staff, marshals and traffic management teams.

Cycling to York Pride

Cycling can be a good way to travel to York Pride, especially if you are local. Please use designated cycle routes where possible and park bikes safely and considerately.

Do not attach bikes to event fencing, emergency access points, barriers, gates, private property or anything that may need to be moved quickly for safety reasons.

York Pride is a busy city-wide event, so please plan your route before you travel. Allow extra time, check public transport before setting off, and keep an eye on York Pride’s website and social media channels for any final travel updates.
