York Pride Quiet Tent

York Pride Quiet Tent

Supporting Neurodiversity & Mental Wellbeing

In partnership with Tadcaster Barn

AAt York Pride, we aim to be as inclusive as possible for everyone. The Quiet Tent, created by and for neurodivergent people in partnership with Tadcaster Barn, offers a calm, supportive space for anyone who may need a break from the busy festival environment.

This area has been thoughtfully designed with neurodivergent visitors and those with sensory sensitivities in mind. It provides a peaceful retreat away from the crowds — a space where you can unwind, self-regulate, and rejoin the celebrations when you’re ready. Inside, you’ll find soft seating, reduced noise levels, and a low-stimulation atmosphere. Sensory-friendly items such as ear defenders and fidget resources are available, alongside gentle mindfulness and relaxation activities to help you rest and recharge.

Friendly volunteers from Tadcaster Barn, many with lived experience of neurodiversity and mental health challenges, will be on hand to offer understanding and support throughout the day. The Quiet Tent is a judgment-free space where everyone is welcome and respected.

We’re proud that this area is designed by neurodivergent people, for neurodivergent people — ensuring it truly meets the needs of those who use it. York Pride is continually working to improve accessibility and wellbeing across the festival, and we welcome ideas or partnerships that can help us take this further.

If you or your organisation would like to collaborate on enhancing the Quiet Tent or contribute to our wellbeing programme, please contact info@yorkpride.org.uk.
